Satish Shah’s funeral: Ratna Pathak Shah, Dilip Joshi, Johnny Lever paid last tribute

Mumbai: Prominent personalities from the Indian film and television fraternity gathered at the residence of veteran actor Satish Shah on Sunday to pay their last tributes, following the actor’s demise on Saturday due to kidney complications at the age of 74.


Satish Shah, known for his comic roles in the shows ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ and ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’, passed away in Mumbai.

Those who came to express their condolences included Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajesh Kumar, Roopa Ganguly, Dilip Joshi, Johnny Lever, Sumeet Raghavan, Deven Bhojani, Jamnadas Majethia, Anjan Srivastava, Ashok Pandit, Jackie Shroff and Kunal Kohli and many others.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray also arrived for his last darshan.

Earlier, filmmaker Ashok Pandit had shared the news of the actor’s demise on his Instagram handle. According to the filmmaker, the actor breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday. Calling Satish Shah’s demise a ‘huge loss’ for the entertainment industry, Ashok Pandit said, “Our friend and great actor Satish Shah has passed away due to kidney failure. Just a few hours ago, he suddenly fell ill at home. He was taken to a hospital in Hinduja, Shivaji Park. He has passed away. It is a huge loss for our industry.”


Ashok Pandit expressed grief over the actor’s demise and recalled his working experience with Satish Shah. Ashok Pandit said, “I have worked with Satish a lot. Satish was a very nice and talented person. His family informed me about this news. There are no words to express their grief.”


Shah died suddenly after collapsing while having lunch on Saturday afternoon, his manager Ramesh Kadtala confirmed.


Speaking to ANI, Kadtala recalled the heartbreaking moments surrounding the actor’s death. “It happened yesterday while he was having lunch (it happened around 2 or 2:45 pm when he was having lunch). He took a bite while eating and then collapsed. Kuch halfa ghanata laga lana ambulaan (It took about half an hour to bring the ambulance)… On reaching the hospital the doctor declared..,” he said.


Known for his evergreen performances in ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ and ‘Main Hoon Na’, Shah’s demise marks the end of an era in Indian comedy. His unmatched wit, charm and versatility have made him one of the most respected and loved figures in Indian entertainment.
