Satish Shah cremated at 74: Bollywood stars, colleagues and fans bid emotional farewell to the comedy legend

Mumbai: Iconic Bollywood actor Satish Shah, who died a day earlier at the age of 74, was cremated in Mumbai on Sunday morning.

According to the medical certification of cause of death released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ actor passed away due to kidney-related complications.

Family members, close friends and members of the film fraternity attended the crematorium in Mumbai to pay their last respects. His mortal remains were kept at his Bandra (East) residence for condolence before the last journey.

Naseeruddin Shah, Tikku Talsania, David Dhawan, Rumi Jaffrey, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ali Asgar, Deepak Parashar, Harish Bhimani, Avtar Gill, Angan Desai, Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak were seen at the crematorium in Mumbai.

Naseeruddin was also accompanied by his son Imad Shah.

Famous director David Dhawan was also seen entering the cremation ground. After him came ‘Khichdi’ actor Anang Desai. Both the celebrities wore white attire for the actor’s funeral.

Those who attended Satish Shah’s funeral today included Poonam Dhillon, Farah Khan, Prahlad Kakkar, Suresh Oberoi, Swaroop Sampat, Dilip Tahil, Prasoon Joshi, Sharad Saxena, Tej Sapru.

The cast of ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ also bid an emotional farewell to the actor as they gathered near Satish Shah’s mortal remains to express their condolences.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also condoled the demise of veteran actor Satish Shah and said that the late actor will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment.

In an ex-post, PM Modi said that Satish Shah’s “effortless humor and iconic performance brought laughter to the lives of countless people”.

He said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Satish Shah ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment. His effortless humor and iconic performances brought laughter to the lives of countless people. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”

With a career spanning over four decades, Satish Shah became a household name through his comic roles in films and television.

The actor’s diverse filmography includes popular hits like the satirical black comedy ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ (1983), ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Shaadi No. 1’.

Despite his memorable roles in cinema, Shah’s portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in the television series ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ remains one of the most iconic comedic performances in Indian TV history.

The entertainment industry is mourning the demise of Bollywood icon Satish Shah, with fans and colleagues expressing their grief on social media.
