“Satish and Madhu have always been extremely warm and lovely. We made sure we invited them to all our film premieres. They would come for screenings, parties. They were always on our list of guests and invitees. We couldn’t celebrate anything without them.” Pilgaonkar told Hindustan Times. “And now, I’m wondering how we can celebrate without her! Unfortunately, Madhu is also not well. She has Alzheimer’s. This year, Satish had undergone his kidney transplant. He wanted to extend his life so that he can take care of Madhu. He was on dialysis. Earlier, he had undergone bypass surgery, which was successful.”

Rajesh Kumar clarified the cause of death

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, actor Rajesh Kumar, who played Shah’s on-screen son Rosesh Sarabhai in the iconic sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, clarified the confusion over the cause of death.

“I can’t tell you how emotional these last 24-25 hours have been. It’s very difficult to express. But I want to clarify a few things about Satishji’s demise, yes, he had kidney problems but he actually died of a heart attack,” Kumar said.

Recalling the moment, he said, “He was at home, having lunch, and then he… passed away. I wanted to clarify it because some reports were saying it was due to kidney problems. The kidney problem had already been dealt with; it was under control. Unfortunately, it was sudden cardiac arrest that took him away.”

Filmmaker Ashok Pandit confirmed the news

Filmmaker Ashok Pandit was among the first to confirm Shah’s demise. “This is a huge loss to the film fraternity. Satishji was not only an excellent artiste but also a wonderful human being,” Pandit said in his social media post.

David Dhawan remembered an old friend

Satish Shah’s close friend and veteran filmmaker David Dhawan expressed his grief while speaking to Hindustan Times. The two have a friendship spanning over five decades, having graduated together from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Dhawan recalled, “I have very good memories with him. He used to get his dialysis done at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. If I was shooting at Mehboob Studio, I used to ask him, ‘Will you come?’ And he always came to meet everyone on the set.”

He said Shah’s health started deteriorating after the kidney transplant. “I have very good memories with him. He used to get his dialysis done from Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. If I was shooting at Mehboob Studio, I used to ask him ‘Will you come?’ He used to come to the set and meet everyone! He was absolutely fine, but problems started after the kidney transplant. He was also in Kolkata for some time,” Dhawan said emotionally.

Satish Shah leaves behind a legacy of decades of memorable performances in film and television, from Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai.
