New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Nanak Guruparv, which is being celebrated on November 5 this year, many of our Indian celebrities took to their social media handles and extended warm wishes. From Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor to Diljit Dosanjh – everyone wished their fans on this happy occasion. Meanwhile, veteran actor Anupam Kher visited the famous Golden Temple in Amritsar to pay tribute to the founder of Sikhism on his 556th birth anniversary.

Guru Nanak Jayanti is the celebration of the birth of the first Sikh Guru – Guru Nanak Dev. It is one of the most sacred festivals of Sikhism. In Sikhism, the anniversaries of the 10 Sikh Gurus are widely celebrated as it is these Gurus who were responsible for shaping the beliefs of the Sikhs. His birthday, known as Gurpurab, is an occasion of celebration and prayer among Sikhs.
The founder of Sikhism – Guru Nanak was born on the full moon date of Cuttack in 1469 according to the Vikram Samvat calendar at Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in present-day Sheikhupura district of Pakistan, now Nankana Sahib.

Guru Nanak preached that any person can connect with God by worshiping with a clear conscience. His teachings are included in the holy Sikh book – Guru Granth Sahib.
