The response to Michael Jackson’s upcoming biopic has proved that the ‘King of Pop’ still rules the hearts. The Lionsgate-produced Michael trailer garnered 116.2 million views worldwide in just 24 hours of its launch.
This makes it the most viewed trailer for a musical biopic in history, collider Notifies. Not only that – Lionsgate’s trailer has received the most views in the first 24 hours after launch. The previous record-holder, the John Wick: Chapter 4 Michaels trailer, fell behind by 50 percent within the first six hours of the trailer being online.
“People have been waiting for this for a long time,” said Adam Fogelson, group president of Lionsgate. “I think people are shocked by Jafar [Jackson’s] Performance,” he added.
How the Michaels trailer matches up to other musical biopics
The popularity of Michael’s trailer far surpasses any comparable trailer launch. According to Collider, the Taylor Swift: The Eras tour promo received 96.1 million views, Bob Marley: One Love received 60.1 million views, Bohemian Rhapsody received 57.6 million views, and the trailer for the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown received 47.2 million views.

What to expect from Michael?
Starring Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jafar Jackson, the biopic of the late pop superstar is being directed by Antoine Fuqua. It is being produced by Graham King. The screenplay for Michael is written by John Logan, who has three Oscar nominations.
This film will be released on April 24 next year. Along with Jafar, other actors playing the famous character include Nia Long (Katherine Jackson), Colman Domingo (Joe Jackson) and Miles Teller (John Branca).
