Ariana Grande shares how her character Glinda goes through a full arc from Wicked to Wicked: For Good, which is set to release on November 21.
Wicked: For Good, starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. In the 2024 sequel to Wicked, this time, it’s Ariana’s Glinda who stands at the center of Oz’s fragile new order after her once-unbreakable friendship with Elphaba (Cynthia) falls apart due to the strain of divided loyalties.
What did Ariana share?
Speaking about Glinda’s journey in the upcoming film, Ariana said, “One of my favorite things about Glinda is following her evolution from her beginnings as a rogue to Wicked: Good. She spends the entire story searching for the true meaning of goodness, and that definition changes for her multiple times, as each traumatic event occurs, and there are many things that she experiences that propel her toward the truth. Her emotional arc is my favorite thing about her.”
Meanwhile, producer Marc Platt said, “At the beginning of the film, Glinda is the kind of leader The Wizard wants her to be and the kind of leader the people of Oz expect her to be. She’s beautiful, charming, and generous, but it’s a hollow lead. Only the audience sees her private moments, where she begins to question who she really is. Through that conflict, her humanity reawakens, and she becomes the leader they are, rather than the image or expectation. Guided by compassion and conviction.” Looks at the plate.
about evil for good
The film’s official synopsis reads, “As an angry mob rises up against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba need to come together one last time. With their only friendship now the basis of their future, they need to look at each other with honesty and empathy if they are to change themselves and all of Oz for good.”
Wicked: For Good is directed by Jon M. Chu and is set to release in Indian theaters on November 21.
