New Delhi: Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Chirag Paswan is celebrating a major political milestone after his party secured 19 seats in the recent Bihar Assembly elections. Amid the celebrations, Paswan opened up about his brief stint in Bollywood and the lessons he has learned in his political career.
From film set to Parliament
Before entering politics, Paswan attempted an acting career, making his debut in the 2014 film Mile Na Mile Hum. Despite his confidence on screen, the film performed poorly at the box office. Paswan now looks back on that experience with a mixture of humor and gratitude.

“No one from my family ever went to Bollywood. In filmy style, I can say, ‘My seven generations have no connection with films.’
Struggles with acting: ‘I can’t suppress dialogue’
Paswan shared that the journey from watching his father give an impromptu speech to remembering the lines he had written was unexpectedly difficult.
He recalled that he was given two-lines of dialogue, but gave two pages instead, believing that improvisation was acceptable on a film set.

“No one from my family ever came to Bollywood. In filmy terms, I can say, ‘My seven generations have no connection with films. I was the first generation that was trying to get into it. But, very soon, I realized that it was a disaster. Even before the country, I realized that I was a disaster. I just realized that I was not made for it,’ he said, laughing.
Friendship with Kangana Ranaut
Despite the film’s failure, Paswan said his Bollywood journey was worthwhile as it led to his close friendship with actress Kangana Ranaut, who like him is now a Member of Parliament belonging to the ruling NDA.
He said, “The only good thing that happened to me after I tried my luck in acting was that Kangana and I became really good friends. It’s a good thing that we have come up with since that time. And I was really looking forward to meeting Kangana in Parliament because for the last three years, I was so busy in my life that I had lost my connection with her.”
Why did he leave Bollywood?
Paswan revealed that his decision to leave Bollywood was influenced not only by the challenges within the industry but also by what he saw outside it. He observed that the people of Bihar were often treated disrespectfully in other parts of the country, which pushed him onto the political path.
He believes that had he stayed here longer he would have made a respectable film career, but his desire to address injustice against Biharis took priority.
about the movie
Directed by Tanveer Khan, ‘Mile Na Mile Hum’ featured stars like Kabir Bedi, Poonam Dhillon, Sagarika Ghatge, Neeru Bajwa, Dilip Tahil and Suresh Menon.
Despite its stellar cast, the film failed to launch Paswan’s career – but it laid the foundation for a political journey in which he is now flourishing.
