New Delhi: The controversy over Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s postponed wedding has taken a new turn with choreographer Mary D’Costa unexpectedly making headlines. Purported screenshots of flirty chats between Mary and Smriti’s fiancé, Palash Muchhal, are circulating on social media, leading to speculation about whether the messages played a role in the sudden halt of the ceremony.
Wedding postponed after continuous health emergencies
The turmoil began on November 23, the day Smriti was to marry Palash, when her father Srinivas Mandhana suffered a medical emergency. The wedding was postponed indefinitely due to him being taken to hospital. Doctors later ruled out heart blockages and confirmed that he was “out of danger”, the Indian Express reported.

The situation became more serious when, just a day later, Palash himself was admitted to a Mumbai hospital due to a viral infection, although doctors said his condition was not critical.
Smriti’s father has been discharged from the hospital and his condition is said to be stable.

Deleted wedding photos and alleged chat spark new online speculation
Amid these persistent health concerns, Smriti deleted her wedding photos from social media, a move that sparked fresh speculations online. The alleged leaked chats claim that Palash described his relationship with Smriti as “almost over” and “long distance”, with Mary allegedly questioning him about their upcoming marriage. Till now, neither Smriti nor Palash has looked into the authenticity of these messages.
However, adding to the speculations, Smriti deleted all the photos and videos of her engagement and pre-wedding ceremony on Instagram on Monday morning. Still, it is important to note that Smriti has not deleted any other photos of herself with him.
Who is Mary D’Costa?
As per reports in Filmibeat, Mary D’Costa is a choreographer who was possibly overseeing the performance of the wedding festivities. Usually staying out of the public eye, her name quickly spread as soon as the alleged screenshots surfaced.
For now, both families are focused on the medical issues that interrupted the celebrations, with neither party commenting on the social media claims or rumors about Mary’s involvement.
