Over the last three weeks, Dixit Shetty has ranged from controlling lover to willful lover for a strange thief Bhagyalakshmi’s BankHis recent picks – including blink, ktmAnd Dussehra -Indicate intention to avoid typecasting.

In Bhagyalakshmi’s BankDirected by debutant Abhishek, Dixit’s character is exaggerated and subtly comical. His minimalist style – mischievous smile, informal dialogue, agile body language – brings charm. However, the director’s attempt to intensify the scenes involving Dhikshit with monologues seems excessive.

Bank of Bhagyalakshmi (Kannada)

Director: Coronation

Mould: Dixit Shetty, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Brinda Acharya, Usha Bhandari

Runtime: 152 minutes

Story: A team of five amateur thieves reunite for a final score in a village full of elections. With no experience and only a careless plan, things don’t go as expected.

Bhagyalakshmi’s Bank It’s a fun watch when it doesn’t take itself seriously. When the story takes a moral path, you feel detached from the proceedings. Ultimately, the film follows a familiar path after being genre-specific for the most part.

The comedy heist thriller begins when a group of youngsters led by Kanak aka Tiger decide to rob a bank in a village. They wear animal masks, and naturally, each member of the gang has an animal code name. An unexpected obstacle, coupled with the lack of a Plan B, forces the gang to take the people inside the bank hostage.

Director Abhishek presents you with a series of characters both inside and outside the bank. While the investigating officer (Vishwanath Mandalika) is a stock character, a popular news-centric YouTuber (Gopalkrishna Deshpande) and a “budding journalist” (Bharat GB) help pique our curiosity.

Inside the bank, there is a content creator (AS Suraj) to lighten your mood and a folk singer (Usha Bhandari) as a calming elderly presence. The bank accountant played by Brinda Acharya appears to be a traditional female character until the story gives her an interesting twist. The impending elections serve as an additional conflict in the plot.

The mix of humour, slapstick and inventive wordplay is mostly reserved for Srivatsa, who plays one of the gang members, and the actor does a good job. Editor Tejas Gowda’s delightful creative changes add to the experience of watching a fun thriller, while Judah Sandy’s stylish score adds to the thrill inherent in the genre. A dream-like song featuring the lead characters is eye-catching, thanks also to Abhishek Kasaragod’s stylistic lighting and unconventional camera movements.

technical superiority of Bhagyalakshmi’s Bank Disappointed with its writing. The sudden shift toward heavy drama is jarring, bringing us down from the film’s peak of absurdity. A complex storyline leading to a big reveal clutters the main narrative. A film that started with the promise of a big climactic twist continues to struggle under the weight of its own ambition.

Despite shortcomings, Bhagyalakshmi’s Bank Is a good comedian. The film is self-aware for the most part, and this works in its favor.

Bank of Bhagyalakshmi is currently running in theaters
