Purba Medinipur: After actress Lagnajita Chakraborty accused her of harassment during a performance at an event in Bengal, the Purba Medinipur police has arrested the alleged accused.
East Medinipur SP Mithun De described the incident as “unfortunate” and said they have arrested the alleged accused.
“It is an unfortunate incident. As soon as we came to know about it, we immediately decided to arrest him. We were conducting the raid because he was absconding. We arrested him today and will produce him in court tomorrow. We will seek his remand so that we can investigate further. We are also in touch with the singer.

Mithun Dey said, “Based on what the singer told us, we thought the police station’s approach could have been better. A departmental inquiry has been initiated… the incident could have been handled better.”
Controversy erupted after renowned playback singer Lagnajita Chakraborty was allegedly pushed and physically assaulted while performing a devotional song at a private function in Kolkata on Saturday.
Speaking to ANI, Lagnajita Chakraborty alleged that a man charged at her “with intent to kill” after she sang the devotional song ‘Jaago Maa’ from the film ‘Devi Chaudhurani’.
Sharing details of the incident, Lagnajita said, “So, I started my show at around 7 pm, and my show was going on just fine, just like a show should go. At around 7.45 pm, I had sung seven songs, and I was going to my eighth number in the list, and before going to my eighth song, I was almost interacting with my audience, like we usually do between two songs.”
“So, this seventh song, which I was singing, is a song called Jaago Maa, and it is a song from this film Devi Chaudhurani, which has been released in this puja itself. When I was done singing this song, and was talking to the audience, we suddenly saw a gentleman moving towards the stage, not walking, but running and moving towards the stage, and within a second, he was on the stage with us,” Lagnajita said.
According to Langjita, the alleged accused asked the singer to sing a secular song.
“Mehboob Malik (alleged accused) had moved towards the stage with the intention of hitting me, in clear words, he wanted to beat me, and even though the video is not available, last evening there were teachers, students and parents in the audience, so they all saw it. When he got up on the stage and was about to hit me, two or three people managed to pull him away from me.”
Langjita further said, “When he realized that, despite all this, he could not actually succeed in beating me. When he was being taken away from me, he shouted, ‘Enough of your wake up mother, now sing something secular.’
At present the matter is under investigation.
