New Delhi: Actress Janhvi Kapoor has condemned the murder of 27-year-old Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The Homebound actress wrote a detailed note describing the murder as “slaughter” and calling it an act of barbaric and deeply inhuman violence.
The actress also talked about extremism.
Janhvi wrote, “What is happening in Bangladesh is barbaric. It is genocide, and this is not an isolated incident. If you do not know about their inhumane public murder, then read about it, watch videos and ask questions. And if despite all this you do not get angry, then this is exactly the kind of hypocrisy that will destroy us before we know it.”

The Homebound actor said, “When our own brothers and sisters burn to death, we will continue to cry about things around the world. Extremism in any and every form must be called out and condemned before we forget our humanity.”
Dipu Chandra Das was a 25-year-old Hindu textile factory worker who was brutally murdered in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Bangladesh on Thursday night. The mob beat him and set him on fire on charges of blasphemy. The incident took place near the Pioneer Knit Composite factory in the Square Masterbari area, where Das was employed. According to local reports cited by news outlets, his body was tied to a tree and burned. His family came to know about the attack through social media. Police have arrested at least 12 people in connection with the murder.
The attack has been widely condemned, with many social media users praising the actress for speaking out.
One user wrote, “She is calling for the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das and the brutal massacre of Hindus in Bangladesh, while the rest of Bollywood remains silent, afraid of losing their precious Muslim-market money, boycotting, or ruining their ‘progressive’ image by skipping the obligatory Palestine post. She has the real guts to condemn Islamic extremism in our backyard, without any selective hypocrisy.”
Another commented, “Congratulations to Janhvi. As an actress I may not like her much, but one thing I have to agree on is that she is very aware of the things happening around her and has the courage to address them. Not just in this case, but in many other cases too. She speaks intelligently compared to other ‘Napo girls’. I don’t know if it’s PR or something, but I really like the way she talks in interviews.” I wish she could do something beyond acting, as her mother wanted.
Others expressed similar sentiments, with one user saying, “At least she has the courage to speak on this topic,” and another adding, “Always good to read opinions on topics celebrities actually care about. This is for Janhvi.”
