Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 gets a release date, Jeetu Joseph’s thriller will release in 2026

Chennai: The makers of director Jeethu Joseph’s much-awaited Malayalam film ‘Drishyam 3’, starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the lead role, on Wednesday announced that the film will release on screens worldwide on April 2, 2026.

Renowned production house Ashirwad Cinemas, which is producing the film, took to its X timeline to make the announcement.

It read, “Years have passed. Past has not passed. #Drishyam3 | Worldwide Release | April 2, 2026.”

It can be recalled that Mohanlal had completed shooting his portions for the film in December last year. A video clip of the actor cutting a cake in front of the entire unit to celebrate the completion of his part had gone viral.

It is noteworthy that Mohanlal started work on this film last year on the eve of receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor of Indian cinema.

The film, which is the third installment of the highly rated franchise, was formally launched in September last year with a traditional puja ceremony held at a law college near Kochi.

Director Jeethu Joseph, while addressing the media ahead of the launch, had revealed that ‘Drishyam 3’ will explore the next chapter in the life of Georgekutty, the iconic character played by Mohanlal in the film.

Joseph told, “The film focuses on what happens in Georgekutty’s life after four and a half years. That’s the crux of the story.”

Producer Antony Perumbavoor, Mohanlal’s long-time collaborator and the driving force behind the success of the Drishyam series, had said that the decision to go ahead with the third installment came after extensive discussions.

Perumbavoor had said, “The phenomenal response to the first two parts convinced us that Georgekutty’s journey had a lot to tell. It was only after detailed conversations with Jeethu that we finalized this new version.”

The unit shot across multiple locations including Thodupuzha and Vagamon, with the final five-day schedule taking place in Ernakulam.

Drishyam films have achieved cult status in Indian cinema for their entertaining storylines, complex mysteries and Mohanlal’s acclaimed performances.

The first film, released in 2013, set new standards in Malayalam cinema, while its sequel, released in 2021, achieved record-breaking viewership across both theaters and streaming platforms.
