Limit 2: Sunny Deol-Varun Dhawan starrer Border 2 is one of the most awaited films of 2026. Reason? It marks the return of one of the most revered patriotic franchises that left an indelible impact on Indian cinema. While the original Border – which released in 1997 – is still remembered for its impressive treatment of nationalism and courage, audiences are eager to see how the sequel will build on that legacy. The film’s grand visual scale, its emotional appeal and impressive war scenes will be loved by the audience. The impact of the film can be gauged from its already recorded advance booking numbers.
We spoke to trade analyst Taran Adarsh to understand whether Border 2 will emerge as one of the biggest films of 2026. “It’s too early to say. But I have to be honest about the massive craze for Border that I saw in 1997. This was when I reviewed the film, and I was amazed at the huge love and support it got from the audience. This was because Border was a multi-starrer. It was undoubtedly the biggest film. JP Dutta was a big name even then. And the songs from the film got huge popularity and love.”

Let us tell you, the film started its advance booking in India on January 19. Its advance booking at the international level started from the evening of 18 January. According to the current figures, the film has started gaining momentum. It has started online sales of more than 2000 tickets per hour. With this, Border 2 is ahead of many big recent releases overseas.
Advance booking for Borderlands 2 began on January 18 in select theaters in the United States, Germany, Australia, and Canada. As per Pinkvilla’s report, in Australia, advance bookings for Border 2 are faster than those registered for Dhurandhar and War 2. Reportedly, a similar trend is being seen in America and Germany also. Soon, ticket windows for the Sunny Deol starrer will open in other regions around the world as well.
When asked about his reaction on India’s advance booking numbers, Taran said, “Advance bookings for the film in India started on January 19. We should wait till Wednesday and Thursday to clearly know the audience response. Apart from advance bookings, we should focus on spot/current bookings which will start from Friday. This will help us understand what is the actual footfall for the film.”
Like the audience, Taran also believes that Border 2 is one of the most awaited films due to its deep emotional connect with the audience. Audiences will be as emotionally invested in Border 2 as the original film as it highlights strong feelings of sacrifice and patriotism. He added, “What really worked for Border was its emotional connect. So, people will automatically connect with Border 2. The star cast will also work in the film’s favour. More importantly, the songs from the original film have been used in Border 2.”
Border 2 has managed to generate huge curiosity among the audience as it is based on the India-Pakistan war of 1971 and openly calls the enemy by its name. “The most popular dialogue of the film ‘Awaaz kahan tak jaani chahiye. Lahore tak’ clearly takes the name of the enemy. I think Border 2 openly calls the enemy by its name which will actually work in its favor. There is no ‘hope for peace’ message in Border 2. It is based on the 1971 war and carries a strong sentiment.
