Delhi’s Tis Hazari court hands over alleged rape case against TV actor Ashish Kapoor, two others to sessions court

Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court recently transferred the alleged rape case against TV actor Ashish Kapoor and two others to the sessions court for further proceedings. All three accused are on bail in this case.

On the complaint of the victim, an FIR was registered in Civil Lines police station on 11 August 2025 under sections of rape, gang rape, causing hurt etc.

Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet under 64 (1) (rape) BNS in November 2025.

After completion of investigation of the charge sheet and documents, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Karthik Taparia handed over the case to the sessions court.

“The offense punishable under section 64(1) BNS is triable exclusively by the Hon’ble Sessions Court. Therefore, the present case is assigned to the Hon’ble Sessions Court for hearing. The same was communicated to the Public Prosecutor,” JMFC Karthik Taparia ordered on January 15.

The court directed Ahlmad to complete the file in every respect and place it before the Ld. Principal District and Sessions Judge 22 January 2026, 2:00 pm.

Two other accused in this case are Kapil Gupta and Ritu Gupta. While granting bail to Ashish Kapoor on September 10, the court had pointed out lapses in the investigation and said, “Despite the PC being taken on remand, no serious efforts were made to recover the mobile phone. No search was conducted as per law. There is nothing on record that the accused did not cooperate in the investigation.”

Advocate Deepak Sharma had argued that the allegations against accused Ashish Kapoor are false. This case has been registered only for the purpose of extorting money. The complainant has a habit of filing complaints. He had filed a complaint against his landlord at Janakpuri police station this year.

The case was registered on the complaint of a woman who had attended a party where the accused was also present.

Ashish Kapoor was arrested on September 2 in Pune, Maharashtra. Following his arrest in Pune, his application seeking interim protection from arrest had become infructuous.

Complainant was invited to a party organized in Ashish’s neighbourhood. She said that she had met Ashish for the first time and also his friends. It is alleged that she was given something mixed with water to drink, due to which she became unconscious. She was then dragged into the washroom and allegedly gang raped.
