Singer Chinmayi on Arijit Singh’s retirement as playback singer, says he always worked at a high level

Mumbai: There is no doubt that Arijit Singh broke the hearts of millions of fans by announcing his retirement from playback singing. For many, her voice has been the soundtrack to love stories, heartbreaks and countless late-night drives, making the news feel extremely personal for many. Soon after his announcement, fellow singers and musicians began sharing how much he meant to them, not only as an artist, but as a person.

Sripada first met Singh when he recorded her for Pritam, before he rose to prominence in the mainstream. In his post, he talked about how, even at that time, he was calm and focused, and how later success did not change him. He also mentioned that he always felt he served from a “higher calling” and that his path into music felt “divine”.

He said, “I remember meeting Arijit when he recorded me for Pritam sir, and I remember telling him how he was not yet ruling Bollywood or anything, Tum Hi Ho had not been released then. I worked with him a few times when he became the most sought-after singer, and nothing had changed. He is one of my favorite composers, singers, and overall, one of the finest, and I would boldly say, among spiritually evolved human beings. I’m one of the best that I’ve seen.”

He added, “I always felt he was someone who worked and operated at a high level; whatever he planned for himself as a musician would be nothing short of divinity.”

Chinmayi and Arijit have worked together on songs like ‘Mast Magan’ from ‘2 States’, ‘Suiyan Si’ from ‘Guddu Rangeela’ and ‘Piya Tu Piya’ from ‘Dongri Ka Raja’.

Arijit Singh surprised fans on Tuesday when he announced that he will no longer be doing any new work as a playback singer, bringing an end to an “amazing” journey.

In a message shared with his fans on Instagram, Arijit expressed his gratitude for the love he has received over the years. He wrote in his post, “Hello, Happy New Year to everyone. I want to thank you all for loving me so much as a listener for so many years. I am happy to announce that I am not going to do any new work as a playback singer from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey.”

Arijit Singh is also a composer, music producer and instrumentalist. She started her career in 2005 with the reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ and made her Hindi film debut in 2011 with Murder 2’s ‘Phir Mohabbat’. Later, after ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from ‘Aashiqui 2’ in 2013, he became a household name and sang many hit songs loved by people of all ages.
