Varanasi Movie Update: Maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Varanasi’ brings together a dream casting of Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, with a script written by Rajamouli’s father V Vijayendra Prasad. Due to release only on Sankranti 2027, the excitement surrounding the film is palpable. The globetrotting action adventure is based on Indian cultural themes, taking inspiration from the structure and emotional tone of classic adventure cinema. Recently Rajamouli also told the connection of his film Varanasi with Ramayana.

Speaking to Polygon, the director said, “All my films are inspired by the epics of (Lord) Ram.” He further added, “In this film, I actually got a chance to take an actual incident from the Ramayana itself and present it in this way.”

He further added, “It’s my job not to make you feel lost, to make the film in such a way that it doesn’t burden your mind.” He further added, “You may not be able to understand the entire story of Ram, but there is no need for that. If you understand the emotions of the characters, you will understand what is happening.”

According to the Financial Express report, Prithviraj usually charges Rs 4-10 crore for a film. His exact remuneration for Varanasi is not known, however, DNA reports that he is reportedly taking home over Rs 10 crore.

With Varanasi, Priyanka Chopra has become the highest-grossing Indian actress. Reportedly, she has charged Rs 30 crore for the film, making her ahead of Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt.
Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi Salary
According to News18, Mahesh Babu usually charges Rs 100-150 crore per film. He is reportedly earning Rs 50 crore per year as fixed remuneration, making a total of Rs 150 crore (for the period of 3 years allotted for the film). The actor has reportedly negotiated a 20% profit share, taking his total earnings to over Rs 250 crore.
