Sonu also urged members of the film industry to stand by Rajpal during what he described as a difficult period in the actor’s life.

“Rajpal Yadav is a talented actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life is unfair, not because of talent, but because time can be cruel. He will be a part of my film, and I believe this is a moment for all of us…producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signature amount, adjustable for future work, is not charity, it is dignity,” Sonu wrote, adding that the signature amount will be for future work. And it is meant to maintain dignity, not charity.

Sonu appealed to producers, directors and colleagues to support Rajpal, saying that the industry should remind its members that they are not alone during difficult times. He said, “When one of our own is going through a difficult time, the industry should remind them that they are not alone. This way we show that we are more than just an industry.”

Sonu’s message came after Rajpal Yadav’s emotional statement went viral on social media, where the actor had talked about his financial difficulty. According to Mint, Rajpal said he had no money and no one to turn to for help, adding that he was dealing with the crisis alone.
Court proceedings and surrender in Tihar Jail
On February 6, 2026, senior lawyer Abhijat appeared for Rajpal Yadav and informed the court that the actor would immediately deposit Rs 25 lakh, with a temporary repayment schedule to be agreed upon for the remaining amount. However, Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma said that Rajpal will have to surrender a day earlier and only after doing so he will be tried.

According to ANI, the Delhi High Court had earlier withdrawn the leniency granted to Rajpal Yadav and directed him to surrender before the concerned jail superintendent by February 4, 2026, citing repeated violations of undertakings to pay settlement dues.
The sentence imposed by the trial court was suspended in June 2024 to facilitate an amicable settlement between the parties. However, the High Court found that even the promised partial payments through demand draft and installment schedule were not made within the stipulated time. The Court rejected explanations citing technical or typographical errors, saying they did not inspire confidence given the persistent pattern of defaults.
