Exclusive: Working with Amit K Singh, Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra on Vadh 2, challenges faced and more

Slaughter 2 recently released in theaters and received a great response from audiences, with the conversation around its layered story and moral complexity continuing to gain momentum. In an exclusive conversation, Amit K Singh opens up about making the leap from a stable career to acting, the flexibility that journey demanded, and the lessons he learned on the sets. He also reflects on collaborating with veterans like Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra, the kind of filmmakers he hopes to work with next, and how audiences have responded to the film’s themes of justice and moral ambiguity.

Question 01. When you left your regular job to pursue acting, what were the biggest challenges you faced and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was choosing uncertainty over comfort. Leaving a steady job meant embracing risk, rejection, and an unpredictable future. There were times when progress felt invisible, and doubt was rampant.

I overcame this by being persistent in my efforts, training, auditioning, failing, learning and repeating. Acting is a long game and I treated it like a long game. The struggle shaped my resilience and today, that journey gives depth, hunger and honesty to my performances.

Question 02. Who would you like to cooperate with in the future?

I would love to work with Jaspal Singh Sandhu again; He really brought out the best of me in Slaughter 2. I also deeply admire Hansal Mehta; His work consistently delivers emotional honesty, social relevance and immense depth to the actors. I am equally looking forward to collaborating with filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, Shoojit Sircar, Vikramaditya Motwane, Meghna Gulzar and Zoya Akhtar, who all tell powerful, distinctive stories.

I’m attracted to storytellers who challenge comfort zones and allow actors to explore morally complex characters.

Question 03. How was it working with stalwarts like Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra on this project?

Working with Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra felt like being in the presence of living legends. His ability to balance restraint, timing and emotional truth is extraordinary. They don’t present scenes, they inhabit them.

What I learned most from him was the power of simplicity and consistency. His humility and generosity on set reinforced the idea that true greatness lies as much in character as in talent.

Question 04. Did Neena Gupta or Sanjay Mishra share any advice or insight during the shoot that stuck with you even after the shoot?

He did not provide formal advice; It was his craft lesson. Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra taught me that patience, timing and honesty are more powerful than theatrics.

One insight that stayed with me was to never force a scene, to rely on silence, subtext and intuition. That philosophy stayed with me long after the shooting was over.

Question 05. How has the audience reaction to Slaughter 2 been for you personally, especially on the themes of justice and moral complexity?

The audience response to Vadh 2 has been very inspiring for me. What’s most striking is how strongly people are reacting to topics like justice, moral ambiguity and emotional consequences. Many audiences have told me that the film stayed with them long after they left the theater, not just as a thriller, but as a conversation about right, wrong, and the uncomfortable places in between.

Personally, it’s gratifying to see the audience engage with the complexity rather than expecting simple answers. This tells me that the film, and Atit Singh, is doing what it was meant to do: provoke thought, not offer easy solutions.
