BAFTA Awards 2026: How and when Indian fans can watch the ceremony, where Alia Bhatt will present the award

Awards season is heating up, and all eyes are now on the 79th edition of the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA 2026). The event is set to offer a heady mix of star power, fashion moments and cinematic glory, with Alia Bhatt set to add desi sparkle to the global event. The best part? Fans won’t miss a second of the action, as the ceremony can be watched live from home.

BAFTA 2026 will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 22 February, with Alan Cumming taking over hosting duties for the first time.

Where and when to watch the BAFTA ceremony

Organized by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the annual ceremony will be held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on February 22, with Alan Cumming taking over hosting duties for the first time. Alia will attend the ceremony as a presenter and will take the stage to hand over an award at the star-studded event.

The ceremony will be telecast live for viewers in India On SonyLIV and the official YouTube channel of the British Academy Film Awards. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 7am GMT in London, viewers in India can tune in during the early hours of Monday, February 23, and the broadcast is expected to begin at approximately 12:30am IST.

Other presenters include Aaron Pierre, Amy Lou Wood, Alicia Vikander, Bryan Cranston, Cillian Murphy, David Johnson, Delroy Lindo, Emily Watson, Erin Doherty, Ethan Hawke, Gillian Anderson, Glenn Close, Hannah Waddingham, Karen Gillan. Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Kerry Washington, Little Sims, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Caton, Millie Alcock, Minnie Driver, Monica Bellucci, Noah Jupe, Olivia Cooke, Patrick Dempsey, Regé-Jean Page, Riz Ahmed, Sadie Cink, Stellan Skarsgård, Stormzy and Warwick Davis.

The awards ceremony will also see the first performance outside the US of Kpop Demon Hunters’ Golden, sung by Jay, Audrey Noona and Ri Ami. Meanwhile, Jessie Ware will cover a Barbra Streisand song during the In Memoriam segment.

Who are nominated?

At the 79th BAFTA Awards, Paul Thomas Anderson’s political satire One Battle After Another leads the nominations with 14 nominations. Ryan Coogler’s historical horror film Sinners has received 13 nominations, the most nominations for a film directed by a black filmmaker in BAFTA history.

One Battle After Another is nominated in major categories such as Best Film, Director and Adapted Screenplay. The 14 nominations is the second-highest tally recorded by a film after Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi, which received 16 nominations in 1983.

Sinners Hall includes Best Director and Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan is in the running to pick up his first Bafta as he has been nominated in the Best Actor category.

Hamnett & Marty Supreme is nominated in 11 categories. Frankenstein and Sentimental Value both received eight nominations, while I Swear received five nominations.

Yorgos Lanthimos for Bugonia, Chloé Zhao for Hamnet, Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value and Ryan Coogler for Sinners are in the running for the Best Director award.

When it comes to leading actress accolades, Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Chase Infinity (One on One Fight), Renate Reinsway (Sentimental Value) and Emma Stone (Bugonia) are nominated.

In the Leading Actor category, Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One on One), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia) are in the running to take home the award.

Odessa Azion (Marty Supreme), Inga Ibsdotter Lilias (Sentimental Values), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), Carey Mulligan (The Ballad of Wallis Island) and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) and Emily Watson (Hamnet) are competing for the supporting actress award.

Nominations for Supporting Actor include Benicio del Toro (One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Paul Mescal (Hamnet), Peter Mullan (I Swear), Sean Penn (One Battle After Another) and. Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value).
