Kerala Story 2 director Kamakhya Narayan Singh hits back at Anurag Kashyap amid ‘mentally weak…’ controversy

New Delhi: After The Kerala Story sparked debate across the country, the makers are returning with a sequel titled The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. The upcoming film aims to continue the conversation, promising that the team will delve into another harsh and uncomfortable truth embedded in society.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Kamakhya Narayan Singh, the sequel focuses on the alleged forced religious conversion of young girls. According to the makers, the story is inspired by real events recorded within the legal system of India and is presented through a layered and intense narrative.

Controversy before release

This film has become the center of controversy even before its release in theatres. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently strongly criticized the project, calling it a “crap picture…propaganda…crap” and questioned the depiction of some scenes. He commented, “Who feeds beef like that? No one even feeds khichdi like he is feeding beef. This is called nonsense.”

Kamakhya Narayan Singh’s counterattack

In response, Singh issued a scathing rebuttal, addressing not only Kashyap but also actor Prakash Raj and others who had questioned the film’s subject matter and intentions.

In a video statement, the director said, “Anurag Kashyap ji has said that someone like this does not even feed khichdi to someone, I agree, one cannot even feed laddu to someone like this. But unfortunately, in our society, to convert our innocent daughters, they are given beef.” Being fed is a crime. The problem is that Anurag Kashyap ji has become mentally weak, he has problems with everything, he has problems with Brahmins, he has problems with Netflix, he has problems with the film industry, this man has problems with everything.

He further said, “He had made a film, The Girl in Yellow Boots, in which we have imagined the moral relationship between a father and a daughter. In a civilized society, these are strangers to think, but this man has become mentally weak and the society has also stopped taking him seriously.” Are. All his films have been flops for the last few years. I pray to Almighty God to give them wisdom.”

Director’s Note on Consent and Coercion

Along with the video, Singh shared a detailed note directly addressing Kashyap, “Dear Anurag Sir, it’s not about what is shown in the film – detail, beef or anything else. The real question is consent and coercion. There can be no compromise against anyone, so if a film offer or a President is talked about, calling it defamation is intellectual dishonesty. Your lies are also creative freedom and our truth is also propaganda! Debate on facts and figures – no. Stop discussing labels like ‘nonsense’, ‘bootlicker’.
