New Delhi: After the stupendous success of Rannati: Balakot & Beyond and Murder in Mahim, JioCinema Premium is all set to add yet another gripping original series, Gaanth, to its diverse collection of original content. Premiering on 11th June, Gaanth stars Manav Vij, Monika Panwar and Saloni Batra in the lead roles. The series is based on an unsolved and hair-raising case that blurs the lines between reality and perspective.
Gaanth takes the audience to the eerie lanes of East Delhi, where a bizarre case of mass suicide draws the attention of both the media and the police. When Gadar Singh, a 40-year-old disgraced police inspector (played by Manav Vij), is assigned the grim case, he is determined to get to the root of the crime and unearth the truth. The mystery deepens with the arrival of Sakshi Murmu (played by Monica Panwar), a psychiatry trainee who has a unique gift of understanding patterns invisible to human eyes. Singh and Murmu form an unlikely partnership to solve the mystery of the peculiar crime scene—seven corpses hanging from seven ropes in a tight, dim corner of a house. While the world views the situation differently, these two detectives, in search of the truth, open a vault buried in the past, which leads them deeper into a web of crimes spanning decades. Together they unravel the layers of the case involving media sensationalism, religious beliefs, superstitions, and societal psychopathology. Tipping Point series film ‘Ganth’ is produced by Ajit Andhare, written by Soham Bhattacharya and directed by Kanishk Verma.
Manav Vij said, “I have always been a fan of psychological thrillers. They make you think deeply, turning you into an investigator as you unravel the mystery in your mind. When I was offered Gaanth, I realised it wasn’t just about playing a cop in a crime thriller; the character had complex nuances. Gadar Singh has many layers, battling inner demons while pursuing the ultimate truth behind the horrific crime. After filming, it took me some time to detach from the character. Despite the challenges, playing such complex roles is extremely rewarding.”
Monika Panwar said, “It’s always exciting to be a part of stories that are different and also give you a chance to think and experiment. ‘Gaanth’ is special because I play a caring psychologist in a dark thriller. I feel my character brings in the much-needed positivity to the show. Life has been a little unfair to her, and she willingly gets involved in a murder investigation, while discovering aspects of herself that were hidden for a long time.”
Actress Saloni Batra also added, “Being in uniform automatically instills a sense of responsibility in you, especially, for a show like Gaanth which revolves entirely around the investigation of a brutal crime. After reading the script, I was extremely excited to play the character, as it was completely different from the characters I had done before. I had to work on the body language, tone, her relationship with seniors and colleagues and most importantly, her back story. I thoroughly enjoyed working on these nuances. Manav sir’s presence enhanced and brought every moment alive for me as his sincerely beautiful energy and the friendship between us allowed me to be my most vulnerable. He helped me immensely with his insights and experiences.”
