Jyothika, known for her roles in Hindi films such as ‘Satyameva Jayate, … the devil And Srikant Recently, in an interview he opened up about how South Indians are portrayed in Bollywood movies. Jyothika, who is a big name in the South industry, told the publication, “I agree that certain things are overdone there, we love idli-sambar, and we love action films too, but sometimes the way it is portrayed here is definitely overdone. We have actors like Rajkummar in Hindi too, who has his own style of overdoing things. But Rajini sir has taken it to another level. It might be done in good spirit, but frankly, he gets it wrong most of the time.”
Jyothika makes her Hindi debut Get ready for marriage opposite Akshaye Khanna in 1998. The film did not do well and eventually Jyothika tried her luck in South films. Jyothika made a great comeback in South films. the devil this year with Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan. In an old interview with News18, Jyothika revealed why she stayed away from Hindi films for a long time. She said, “In all these years, no filmmaker from Bollywood has approached me. I have not received a single offer from Hindi films. I moved to South films 27 years ago and since then I have only worked in South films. My first Hindi film did not do well in theatres. It is all very formula based. It is important for your first film to do well only then will you get more offers.”
Reflecting on why she did not get offers in Hindi despite tasting success in the South, Jyothika told News18, “Even in Bollywood, people thought I was a South Indian and assumed I did not want to do Hindi films anymore. It was a journey and I am still grateful for it. I did some great work there. It’s not that I avoided doing a Hindi film. It’s just that I wasn’t offered any scripts all these years.”
