Actress Saba Azad has revealed in her latest Instagram post how she has been struggling to get voice-over jobs ever since she started dating Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan.
He shared a photo of himself sitting behind the mic for the first time in two years and revealed the reason behind his long involuntary leave as a voice artiste.
“I never told anyone I was quitting, never said I was not interested, never changed my session fees, no changes were made from my side, so what changed?” she wrote.
”I was completely unaware, I was unaware until a month ago when I met a director with whom I used to work regularly when I was back in Bombay and I couldn’t stop myself and straight away asked him- ‘Hey man I am curious why you guys don’t call me
No more VO? What happened?’ And what happened next completely blew my mind. That’s what they said – “Oh, we thought you didn’t want to do anything like voice over anymore… Well, you can imagine what was said.”
“It’s important for me to share that this guy is amazing, he’s one of the best directors in the business, super progressive and cool and the kind of people I like and want to be with, that was the last thing I expected him to say—in short he said he
She added, “I never thought I would be doing a job like VO, considering where you are in life…i.e. who I’m dating.”
He condemned the “regressive thinking” of the people.
“Are we really still living in the dark ages where we assume that a woman in a relationship with a successful partner no longer has to feed herself? Or pay her rent and bills? Or take pride in her work and take care of herself and her family?
Family??? What kind of archaic concept is that??” Saba wrote, “‘So I basically lost an entire career that I absolutely loved and adored because people thought I didn’t need to work anymore??? This is sadly a very one dimensional patriarchal and regressive mindset.”
In another post, Saba stressed on preserving one’s individuality.
“For the unaware, when two strong independent individuals come together they don’t give up their identities or lives and careers to do so. They maintain their individual identities and share with freedom and power. I still have to put food on my table, guys… so to lose an entire career because of someone else’s ignorance is really sad,” he said.
“So again, no I have not quit advertising, hey ad makers – I still do VO. So please for God’s sake change your perceptions and let’s start recording now,” she stressed and concluded.
Saba also attached video clips of some famous advertisements she has voiced. (ANI)
