Forget the family reunions and dinner table drama – the cast of Modern Family are back, but this time, they’re venturing into the digital world of Whatsapp in a fun new ad.
Modern Family is back for 30 seconds
Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reunite as Phil Dunphy, Claire Dunphy, Cam Tucker and Mitchell Pritchett from the iconic ABC sitcom Modern Family for a new Whatsapp ad.
In this fun campaign, the fan-favorite quartet returns to the familiar Dunphy family to tackle the age-old “blue vs. green bubble” messaging debate. The ad also offers a heartwarming glimpse into the family’s life since the show’s finale in 2020.

The ad begins with Phil, Claire and Cam reacting to an adorable photo sent by Hayley (Sarah Hyland) in the family group chat, setting the stage for their typical hilarious antics.
Cam’s husband Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) walks in, but discovers he’s been left out of the family photo exchange. Realizing he’s not a part of this special text conversation, Mitch says, “You started a family chat without me?” and then says his famous line from the show: “Evening!”
Despite Mitch’s dramatic reaction, the family quickly reassures him that there is no malice. The real culprit is his new phone, which is incompatible with the rest of the family’s devices. Claire explains that Mitch’s new phone has ‘blurry pictures, weird likes.’
A painter working outside their living room window interrupts and suggests they all use WhatsApp for seamless messaging.
The ad shows Cam and Mitch lying in bed, scrolling through their phones. Mitch, still feeling a little annoyed, complains “I still can’t believe you cut me off.” Cam, charming as ever, responds, “We would have cut you off from here,” pointing to his phone, then puts his hand over his heart, saying, “But never from here.”
Eric Stonestreet shared a happy selfie of the stars on set, captioning it, “It was fun getting some of the band members back together @whatsapp.”
Though Modern Family bid farewell in 2020, fans flooded the show with comments like, “Don’t tell me this is just for a commercial. My hopes are high!” and “So nice to see you all together!”
