The news of the restaurant’s closure comes almost a year after Priyanka ended the partnership and moved out of the establishment. The update was shared via a post on Instagram.
The end of the golden era
The restaurant released a statement on June 19 announcing the end of its chapter. It read, “After more than three remarkable years, Sona’s is closing. We have an immense gratitude for everyone who has walked through our doors. It has been our greatest honor to serve you.”
“SONA’s final service will be brunch on Sunday, June 30,” it added.
The restaurant was inaugurated three years ago with an Indian puja ceremony that Priyanka and her husband Nick Jonas also attended. It is frequently visited by celebrities like Mindy Kaling, Anupam Kher, Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif.
The restaurant transported guests to the world of Indian food with dishes like Kerala Roast Chicken, Pumpkin Kofta and Paneer Lababdar. They also served a variety of cocktails.
Priyanka founded this restaurant in New York along with Manish Goyal. She often shared glimpses of the place on her social media, which included a variety of food options ranging from beautifully decorated food to vodka pani puri. The reason behind its closure is not yet known.
Priyanka withdrew her name
Two years after it opened, Priyanka ended her partnership with SONA amid reports of a rift with her business partner Manish.
The restaurateur declared that even after Priyanka stepped away from the business, her “fingerprints were all over SONA”. And she remains in the SONA family despite no longer being a creative partner.
In 2023, a statement from Priyanka’s representatives said, “Bringing Sona to life will certainly be a proud and significant moment in her career. Priyanka has always strived to bring Indian culture to the fore through storytelling, whether it be through engaging content for film and TV, or a beautifully served dish showcasing India’s haute cuisine.”
At the time, Maniesh had said that working with Priyanka was “like a dream come true”.
“We are grateful for her partnership and support. Though she will no longer be involved as a creative partner, she will continue to be a part of the Sona family and we look forward to our respective new chapters,” he said in a statement. People,
