Legendary actor Kamal Haasan, who plays the villain in this movie Kalki 2898 ADsays he was yearning to play a bad man on screen and is glad he got the opportunity through this futuristic drama. Kalki 2898 AD Produced by Vaijayanti Movies, the film will release worldwide on June 27, 2024.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the film stars top film stars like Amitabh Bachchan as the immortal Ashwatthama and Prabhas as Bhairava, an incarnation of Hindu god Vishnu. Kamal Haasan plays the role of Supreme Yaskin in the film. Kalki 2898 ADDirected by Nag Ashwin, the film also stars Deepika Padukone in the role of Sumati.

“I was telling Amit ji (Bachchan) backstage that I always wanted to play a bad guy because the bad guy gets to do all the good things. When the hero is singing romantic songs and waiting for the heroine, he (the bad guy) can just go ahead and do whatever he wants.
“I thought I would play the bad guy, so it would be fun. But then, he (Ashwin) wanted it to be different. I am like a sage with an evil idea in the film,” Kamal Haasan told reporters at the film’s promotional event on Wednesday.
Talking about his scary bald look in the film, the veteran star said the idea was to do something that had not been done before.

“We wanted it (the look) to not look like what anyone else had already done. I thought I had a brilliant idea and I hadn’t seen any stills from the film, so I thought I would dress myself in such a way that people would turn around and look at me.

The 69-year-old actor said, “I thought, ‘I will do research’ and I found out, ‘Amit ji is doing it (the film)’. Then I thought, I will come with the armour, I was told, ‘Prabhas has that’. I didn’t want to get pregnant in the film (referring to Padukone’s character Sumati), otherwise I would have tried that too. With a good director, that could have been possible too.”
Amitabh Bachchan said filmmaker Nag Ashwin has gone beyond what has been done so far in the film industry to craft stories of the future.
“When Nag (Ashwin) came to me and explained the idea to me, I thought it was a totally unique idea. It is unbelievable that someone has conceived of such a futuristic project,” Bachchan told reporters at the event here.

The actor said Nag Ashwin surprised the team at every turn by mobilising “all the materials, all the effects, all the visuals” to bring his vision to life. “Working in a setup where they have gone way beyond what most of us have been doing in this film industry our whole lives… I appreciate the fact that we are moving a little ahead of the times.”

Mother-to-be Deepika Padukone made a grand presence at the event. Piku The actress looked stylish in an all-black outfit that clearly showed off her baby bump. During the event, host Rana Daggubati introduced Deepika and jokingly asked if she was still in character. Deepika laughingly replied, “The film ran for almost three years. So I thought, why not? Just three more months.”
When asked about his working experience Kalki 2898 ADDeepika said, “It was an incredible experience, a great learning experience. We went through different phases, and figured out what the film is about.” Deepika plays a pregnant woman in the film. In the trailer, Deepika can be seen carrying a baby in her womb who brings a curse to the evil forces in the film.
