Arterton, who played MI6 agent Strawberry Fields in the film, has expressed reservations about changing the iconic character created by writer Ian Fleming in 1935.
According to Deadline, he explained, “Isn’t Mary Poppins, a woman like James Bond, being played by a man?”
He added, “They talk about it, but I think people would find it very disrespectful. Sometimes you just have to respect tradition.”

While Arterton, a BAFTA-nominated actor, admitted that he has no regrets about being a part of the Bond franchise, he admitted that the constant attention his brief appearance in the film has brought has surprised him.
According to Deadline, she commented, “I don’t regret doing the Bond film, but I wonder why it followed me. I was only in the film for five minutes.”
His comments come amid broader conversations about the future of the James Bond series, which has seen calls for more diverse portrayals of the iconic spy.
Franchise creator Barbara Broccoli recently talked about the casting of the next 007, suggesting that the role will be filled by a man, possibly around 30, though not necessarily white.
According to Deadline, Broccoli said in a recent interview, “Every time we cast a new actor, the movies change.”
Broccoli also emphasized the excitement that comes with casting a new Bond, saying, “It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction. Every single one of these guys who played the role brought something new and different to the table.”
The current Bond, Daniel Craig, has made it clear he has no preference for his successor, saying last month, “I don’t care” who takes over the coveted role, according to Deadline.
Craig has played James Bond in five films – ‘Casino Royale’ (2006), ‘Quantum of Solace’ (2008), ‘Skyfall’ (2012), ‘Spectre’ (2015), and ‘No Time to Die’ (2021). Have played the character. ,
