A lot of this is above my pay level, but there will definitely be a sequel: Simu Liu on ‘Shang-Chi…’

New Delhi, Hollywood star Simu Liu says a sequel to his 2021 Marvel superhero film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is “definitely happening”.

A lot of this is above my pay level, but there will definitely be a sequel: Simu Liu on ‘Shang-Chi…’

Liu became the first actor of Asian descent to play a Marvel superhero with the hit film, which also starred Hong Kong veteran Tony Leung as his father and actor Awkwafina as his friend.

Fans were worried about the future of the sequel as there was no update from Marvel about the timeline of the next film despite the success of the first part. But Liu has assured fans that the sequel will definitely come.

“A lot of it is above my pay level, but it’s definitely happening. So very excited to work on it and it’s going to be amazing. I can’t really say anything beyond that,” Liu said in an interview to PTI.

The 35-year-old Canadian actor is currently starring in “Jackpot!”, in which he reunites with his “Shang-Chi…” co-star Awkwafina.

Directed by Paul Feig of “Bridesmaids” and “Last Christmas” fame, “Jackpot!” revolves around Awkwafina’s character Katie, a struggling actor in California in the near future. After Katie wins the lottery, the public is after her life because a rule allows the person who kills her to claim all the winnings. In the comedy, Liu plays Louis Lewis who befriends Katie and John Cena’s Noel and intends to kill them and take the money.

When asked about the jackpot moment in his life, Liu said it was the moment he was given the opportunity to play Shang-Chi.

“Probably the main thing I can think of is getting the call from Kevin Feige God, this was about five years ago telling me I was going to play Shang-Chi.

“If you talk about one moment and one decision in a person’s life that changes the direction of their whole career, their whole life, not only my life but also the lives of my friends, my family, I think it’s like winning the lottery 10 times over,” Liu said.

“Jackpot!” is currently streaming on Prime Video.
