A team of singers versed in playback singing in Carnatic music and Telugu cinema have come together for a music video on Argala Stotram. The music video, released on Thursday during the Navratri and Dussehra festival, is composed, directed and produced by singer ML Gayatri.
This music video is an attempt to highlight the devotional fervor of Argala Stotram based on the sacred text Chandi Saptashati of Rishi Markandeya. The project features an all-female cast – Chetna Raviraj, Valli Gayathri, ML Shruti and ML Gayathri.
Gayatri explains that Argala Stotram is divided into two categories, Durga Saptasathi and Chandi Saptasathi. For the music video, the team chose Chandi Saptasathi. “We chose a particular shloka from Chandi Saptashati, which is used live during Chandi Yagya. Argala Stotram is a 23-stanza hymn of Chandi Saptasati, which is part of the Markandeya Purana. Chandi Saptashati contains 700 verses dedicated to Goddess Durga/Chandi and her various forms. Argala Stotram praises him and seeks his blessings for protection, prosperity and removal of obstacles. She further adds that Chandi Saptasathi and Argala Stotram are traditionally anonymous, meaning that no single author is attributed. However, these are attributed to the sage Markandeya, as the text comes from the Markandeya Purana.
