Renowned actor and country singer-songwriter, Kris Kristofferson has passed away at the age of 88. While music contributed a large part to his fame, he was also known for his roles in the Blade series and A Star is Reborn. He played the character Abraham Whistler in the film series. News of his death was confirmed in a statement issued by his representative on 28 September.

Kris Kristofferson dies at the age of 88
An official statement released by the singer’s representative said that he died “peacefully” and was surrounded by friends, family and loved ones during his final moments at his home in Maui, Hawaii. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our husband/father/grandfather Kris Kristofferson passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 28,” the statement, obtained by People, read. We are all so lucky to have had the time we had with him, thank you for loving him for so many years, and when you see the rainbow, know that he is smiling down on us all.
Christopherson is survived by his wife Lisa, eight children and seven grandchildren.
Born in Brownsville, Texas, the singer-songwriter was passionate about music from a young age. After briefly serving in the US Army post-college, he traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, where he rekindled his love for music and began his career.
Their first hit track was For the Good Times, released in 1970, followed by other covers, including their version of Sammy Smith’s Help Me Make It Through the Night, which earned them their first Take Home Gave a grammy. He later won a Grammy Award for the songs From the Bottle to the Bottom and Lover Please, for which he collaborated with Rita Coolidge, who was also his second wife, the Daily Express US reports.

Despite having no formal training in acting, Kristofferson played some forgettable tough roles on screen. His first acting break was in the 1976 remake of A Star Is Born, where he played John Norman Howard opposite Barbra Streisand as Esther Hoffman and received a Golden Globe for the same in 1977.
In his long career, in addition to his three Grammys, he also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy in 2014 and was admitted to the Hall of Fame in 2004. He was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song by a Film Songwriter. In 1985.
