Actor Aamir Khan joined the ‘flawed’ trade model of Indian cinema on Friday (May 2, 2025), on an average, ‘I have no meaning for me before the dramatic window of eight-week before airing films on OTT. Star of iconic blockbusters like Aamir, like Aamir Riot, 3 Idiots And PThe World Audio Visual and Entertainment (Waves) was speaking in a session on the second day of the Summit at BKC, Mumbai.
To expand the screen count across the country, Aamir said, “Only 2% of our population watch movies in theaters. Where are the remaining audience?”

There are currently 10,000 film theater in India, out of which 47% are in Southern India. The dramatic footfall is allegedly on a decline since the epidemic, especially for Hindi films, is responsible for high ticket prices and the rise of OTT.
Aamir said, “My faith has always been that we need a lot of theaters in India.” “There are many districts and tracts in vast areas that do not have a single theater for people to watch films. This is what we should invest. India has a large -scale capacity, but it does not have the ability that if you do not have sales of those points across the country. For example, if I live in the Concan area, no theater can be seen until I rely.”
On the OTT-Banam-Thiatral debate, Aamir described the current business model as ‘fun’ and ‘flawed’.

“If I am selling you a product, and if you don’t buy it, I will come to my house after eight weeks anyway and leave it. You have already paid for it (as a membership). This is the business model that we are trusting.

Recently, the run of Hindi dramatic films has been committed for its declining creativity and innovation, especially when compared to Malayalam, Tamil or Telugu counterparts. Aamir said that despite the merits of a film, there is no playground level due to streaming rights.
“Usually, in discussion, people say,” We are not making good films. It’s a different discussion. Even if we make a very good film, it is a faulty business model. “
The actor-producer insisted that he has ‘nothing against Oats’ unless he eats in ‘dramatic pie’. Recently, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos called the dramatic model ‘old concept’ at the New York Summit.
“Pay attention to you, I have nothing against OTT,” Aamir said. “As a consumer, I get to see thousands of titles for a small fee. This is a great innovation. As a creative person, if I am making a long format, I want to go directly to OTT. Each platform has its own profit and strength, but they should be used well.”
Aamir praised the NDA -led Central Government for starting a dialogue on the creativity industry through waves.
The actor said, “I have been for almost 35 years.” “In all these years, I have not seen any government that has ever thought about it. This is the first time any government has implemented its mind and feelings to strengthen the media and entertainment industry and to make us a world leader.”
