Mumbai: On the second day of the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (Waves), Superstar Aamir Khan participated in a panel discussion called “Studio of the Future: Putting India on World Studio Map” at JACC in Mumbai.
In panel discussion, Aamir expressed his disappointment over the lack of cinemas in India compared to the nation’s population.
The ‘Lagaan’ actor compared the number of cinemas in India with the US and China. With the help of estimated data, the actor highlighted the problem of film screen in the nation.
“I have always admitted that we have very few theaters for the size of the country and the number of people living in India. In India, we have about 10,000 screens. In America, which is one-third of our population, they have 40,000 screens, and in China we have 90,000 screens compared to 10,000, and even half of this 10,000, which is a hening.
The actor forwards the fact that in the biggest hit of Indian cinema, only 2 percent of the entire population has a dramatic leg.
“Our biggest hit over the years, no matter which language, had a dramatic leg of three crore people. It is only 2 percent of our entire population. Only 2% of our population in a country which is recognized as a film-loving country, sees our biggest hit in theaters.”
The ‘Lagaan’ actor asks to invest in theaters in many districts and towns of India.
“I think one of the biggest issues we faced for decades is that we do not have enough screens right now, and according to me, we should invest.
The ‘Lagaan’ actor believes that there is a huge possibility in entertainment in India, but it can only be used when there is more dramatic screen in India.
Aamir said, “India has great potential, but this can only be felt when you have more screens across the country. If you don’t, people will not watch films, I can only hear about it,” Aamir said.
Waves 2025 will participate in over 90 countries with more than 10,000 representatives, 1,000 creators, 300+ companies and 350+ startups.
The summit will include 42 plane sessions, 39 breakout sessions, and 32 masterclasses, which are spread in various fields including broadcast, infotainment, AVGC-AXR, films and digital media.
