Dua Lipa recently thrilled Indian fans by performing a mashup of her hit song ‘Levitating’ and Bollywood classic ‘Woh Ladki Jo’ at her Mumbai concert. The original song picturized on Shahrukh Khan in the film was sung by Abhijeet Bhattacharya. While fans celebrated Shah Rukh’s iconic presence, they largely ignored Abhijeet’s contribution to the track, leaving the singer and his son Jai Bhattacharya deeply disappointed.
Abhijeet’s son criticized the lack of recognition
Jai Bhattacharya took to Instagram to express his disappointment over the neglect of his father’s work. Sharing his thoughts in his Instagram story, Jai wrote, “The problem is that no one talks about it. The girl who- What happened to Abhijeet? Unfortunately, we live in a country where no news outlet or Instagram page has mentioned the sound and artist of this song. Why is it always about actors in this country? I’m sure when @dualipa heard this song, he would have heard it, not seen it, and would not have appreciated the man who sang this song, and yes, it is not SRK.
He further insisted, “This is @abhijitbhattacharya and @anumalikmusic. I’m sorry, but wherever you search this song the name is ‘Woh Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai’ – Abhijeet. But somehow the media in this country does not allow any singer to get his due. And then people ask me why I don’t try singing for Bollywood.”
Abhijeet Bhattacharya agreed and re-shared his son’s message. Although musician Anu Malik did not share the same post, he commented on the concert buzz surrounding his creation, writing, “Even in Dua Lipa’s concert, Anu Malik’s song is being talked about the most.”
Dua Lipa’s performance in a mashup created by fans at the MMRDA BKC venue in Mumbai has created a stir online, with several videos circulating on social media. The concert was also attended by a star-studded audience including Anant Ambani’s wife Radhika Merchant and Isha Ambani’s husband Anand Piramal.
The program was part of a larger initiative addressing hunger and malnutrition, contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger by 2030. Dua Lipa’s concert was aimed to raise awareness and funds for this important cause. This was his second visit to India, after his 2019 performance at the OnePlus Music Festival in Navi Mumbai.
