Academy Museum announces program honoring the music of Indian cinema

Pictures of Lagaan, RRR and Slumdog Millionaire

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, one of the world’s largest film museums located in Los Angeles, USA, has announced a program celebrating the music of Indian cinema at the Oscars.

The event will highlight three Indian films-rent (2001), Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and RRR (2022) – which has been honored at the Academy Awards and delves into the “musical tapestry” woven by its acclaimed soundtrack.

According to the Academy Museum’s website, the lecture will be held on May 18 in the David Gaffin Theatre. This will be followed by dance and live tabla performance by Bollypop (Akansha Maheshwari) and Sadubaas (duo Robin Sukhadia and Ameet Mehta). Music of all three films.

Released in 2001, rentA period cricket drama starring Aamir Khan was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars, but did not win. The music of the film was composed by AR Rahman.

Rahman was also the composer of Danny Boyle Slumdog Millionairewhich earned 10 Oscar nominations in 2009 and won 8 awards, including two for its music (Best Original Score and Best Original Song for ‘Jai Ho’).

Recently SS Rajamouli’s RRRA supercharged period action saga wins the Best Original Song Oscar Natu Natu, The groovy and catchy Telugu track was composed by MM Keeravani with lyrics by Chandrabose.
