Achyut Potdar Passes: Jackie Shroff and Boman Irani pay tribute to experienced actors

New Delhi: Indian film industry passed away on Monday, August 18 at a hospital in Mumbai after health complications, mourning the loss of experienced actor Achut Potter. He was 88 years old.

A familiar face in Indian cinema

Achaut Potter, who is known for his depiction of rigid but kind Professor in 3 Idiots, made a career in film and television in three decades. He appeared in over 125 films and TV shows, including Legez Rao Munna Bhai, Mission Kashmir, Ferrari’s ride and notable hit. He was widely appreciated for his ability to bring heat and gravity in supporting roles.

Heartfelt tribute to co-stars

Actor Jackie Shroff, who worked with Potters in many films, expressed his grief on social media. Sharing a picture with the late actor on Instagram stories, Shroff wrote, “This picture with Achut ji will always be in my heart.”


In a follow -up Instagram Story, Jackie also shared a film clip, which featured a scene with Achut potters, captioning it, “Always in my heart.”

Potter co-star Boman Irani also paid tribute to Instagram in 3 Idiots. “With deep respect, remembering Achaut Potter ji. A true gentleman and a memorable artist. My heartfelt condolences,” Irani wrote.

A life beyond the camera

Before entering the world of cinema, Potter led a versatile life. He served the Indian Army and retired as a captain in 1967. He then worked as an executive in the Oil Corporation of India for about 25 years, retiring at the age of 58 in 1992.

His educational career also included a term as a professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, before he started his acting at the age of 44 years.

Inheritance and remarkable work

Potters became a favorite character actor, who is yet known for playing a permanent role. His television credit includes popular serials like Bunid, Wagle Ki Dunia, Mrs. Tendulkar, Maja Hoshila Na and Agale Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo.

The film fraternity, fans and former colleagues continued to share memories and paid their honor to the experienced actor.
