Actor and Tamila Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay on Friday organised a special get-together to felicitate toppers of the recently held Class 10 and 12 exams. The event was held at the Ramachandra Convention Centre in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

Speaking at the event, Vijay congratulated the students and advised them to be mindful of the career path they are about to choose. “Some of you might be a little worried or confused about deciding your career. To all of you, I would say that all professions are good; all that matters is choosing a field of work and giving your 100% to it to be successful. So, choose wisely; understand the options available and talk to your parents, teachers and career counsellors to help you decide,” said Vijay.

the greatest ever-The star also urged the students to become leaders in their respective fields. “Many people consider only medicine or engineering as viable professional fields; in Tamil Nadu, we already have world-class doctors, engineers and lawyers in abundance. We currently lack good leaders. By this I don’t just mean political leaders, but also those who can climb the ladder and become leaders in their respective fields,” he said, urging the students to dream of a future in which politics can become a viable career option for educated youth. “Don’t you all want to see good, educated people in politics?”

As the highlight of his speech, Vijay asked the students to get trained in a skill that can help them get indirectly involved in politics – fact-checking news. “All you need to do is read newspapers regularly, and you will realise how the same news is reported in different ways in different newspapers. Reporting on facts is different from reporting an opinion. Also, you can see how news portals on social media can create opinions about someone, and how they can present good as bad or bad as good,” Vijay said. He added that such skills will help the youth understand the underlying issues troubling our society. “You will stop believing the propaganda and lies spread by some political parties in their campaigns. And only when you do that, will you get the right worldview to choose leaders. There can be no better contribution to the development of our country than this.”

Advising students not to let themselves be led astray by the negative influences of their friends, Vijay urged the youth to avoid using drugs or other vices and indulging in immoral activities. This comes just a week after the TVK chairman met the victims of the Kallakuruchi liquor tragedy.

“Don’t lose your identity at any cost. Tamil Nadu has recently seen a sharp rise in drug abuse among youth. As a father and a leader of a political party, I am horrified by this situation. I am not here to accuse the ruling government of being unable to protect the youth from drug abuse. What I am saying is that sometimes we must take care of our lives first. Develop self-control and self-discipline. Say no to temporary pleasures, say no to drugs.”

Moreover, Vijay at the end of his speech urged those who could not clear the exam to not be disheartened. “Success is never over. Failure is never final.”

It is noteworthy that this event held on Friday is the first of the two student conferences organised by Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam. The second conference will be held on July 3.
