Actor Ramya misuse online, says that rape threat is a new low

Actor-royalty Ramya has slammed fans of Kannada Star Darshan for harassment on social media. On Monday (July 28, 2025), Ramya filed a complaint against fans for online misuse with Police Commissioner Bangalore.

A few days before his complaint, Ramya shared a news report about the Supreme Court proceedings in the murder case of Renukaswamy, in which Darshan is one of the accused persons. The actor spoke Hindu About threatening by fans, who also sent him “unpleasant” messages on social media.

How long have you been receiving an aggressive message online?

I have faced online misuse for years, but no one ever said “I want to kill you or rape you”. These fans are sending me now. People have called me slut or prostitute. I have used for such comments, and this is a sad part. Unfortunately, I have become immune for this. Imagine that trauma takes women online by facing online misuse.

A few years ago, fans of two stars were targeting each other, and they made badly comment about the children of one of the stars. I found it disgusting, and I put out the screenshot of those rude messages on social media to highlight these fans. The stars should have taken steps to make something understandable for their fans. Darshan should have said that he does not like such behavior from his fans. Perhaps then, the Renukaswamy incident would not have occurred. He (Renukaswami) was your fan, and it is the kind of behavior you have encouraged.

What stand did you take against Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case?

Most women cannot pay legal fees in such a fight. They cannot take the risk of excluding themselves publicly because they have a family to take care. They have accepted me this. Fortunately, I am in a state of privilege; I have been a former MP. I have been in politics, so I have contact and support. I do not want to deny it. He said, if I do not use that privilege for anything, I am disappointing other women.

Should stars advise fans to be socially responsible?

In the past, so many actors registered fan clubs. They operated club blood donation camps and included themselves in philanthropy. However, fan war has now become an ideal.
