In Kerala, Kochi City Police arrested actor Shine Tom Chacko after more than four hours of questioning at Ernakulam Town North Police Station on Saturday (April 19, 2025). It comes after being acquitted earlier this year in the 2015 drug case.
Mr. Chacko moved to the station at around 10 am after a summons issued by the police for questioning an incident, in which he fled a hotel in Kalur in Kochi city during a raid by special action force (Dansaf) of District Anti-Nashelas late on Wednesday night.
According to preliminary reports, drugs and psychotropic substances (NDP) Act have been booked under Section 27 (decorated for consumption of any drug or psychotropic substance) and section 29 (punishment for abetment and criminal conspiracy). The first Information Report (FIR) has been filed. The allegations are bail, it is learned.
He was mainly called for questioning why he ran away after seeing the police team at the hotel. Allegedly, the actor claimed that he did not know that it was a police team, but “misunderstood to assault him for the Rafian”.
Details collected
Allegedly, the police have collected their mobile call data records and WhatsApp chat details. Ernakulam Central Assistant Commissioner C. A team of senior police officers, including Jayakumar and the Sale Assistant Commissioner of Drugs, Abdul Salaam.
Police has also collected CCTV footage of Mr. Chacko, who escaped from the hotel in Kalur. Allegedly, he jumped on the asbestos sheet of the second floor and ran from his room on the third floor through the window. He allegedly crossed the swimming area, took the stairs to the reception area, and Pilli, who rushed to a two-wheeler, fled.
The Dansaf team allegedly reached the hotel after receiving a tip-off about a drug pedal. He learned about the presence of Mr. Chacko in the hotel through the register and chose to knock on his door.
Although there was no response initially, another person opened the door. However, the police failed to recover any narcotics from the room despite a complete discovery.
