Mumbai: Bombay High Court on Friday approved the release of the film ‘Humare Barah’. The makers have agreed to remove two dialogues from the film. After the court’s approval, ‘Humare Barah’ will be released in theatres today i.e. on 7 June.
Earlier, the Court was informed that the three-person review committee could not arrive at any conclusion and requested more time for its report. Expressing its dissatisfaction, the Court said, “It is totally unacceptable that the Committee has failed to discharge its obligation as given by this Court in its earlier order.”
After this, senior advocate Rahul Narichaniya, representing the filmmakers, agreed to delete two dialogues objected to by the petitioners to avoid delay. The film stars Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi and Paritosh Tripathi in lead roles.
A petition was filed challenging the release of the film.
Jointly produced by Birendra Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal and Shiv Balak Singh and directed by Kamal Chandra, ‘Humare Barah’ promises to present an interesting story that highlights a serious social issue. The film is banned in Karnataka.
The Karnataka government has banned the screening or telecast of the film ‘Humare Barah’ in the state for two weeks or until further notice.
The decision was made as per sections 15(1) and 15(5) of the Karnataka Cinema Regulation Act, 1964.
The Karnataka government alleged that the release of ‘Humare Barha’ would create communal tension in the state. The authorities took this decision after considering the requests of several minority organisations and delegations and watching the trailer.
The film is scheduled to release across the country on June 7, 2024. ‘Humare Barah’ depicts the topic of population growth.
