Pratik Smita Patil has changed its last name several times in the last decade. A few weeks ago, he publicly revealed that he had chosen to go with the name Pretic Smita Patil after discussing with his wife Priya Banerjee.
In a recent interview, Pratik Smita Patil revealed a custody battle after her birth to decide on her last name between her father Raj Babbar and Smita Patil’s family. Smita Patil died soon after her birth.
In a video shared on Varinder Chawla’s YouTube channel, Pretic shared, “I was born Pretic. There was a detention battle for me from my mother’s side and family’s side of my mother’s family and family. My mother’s side won. It was still a fight for the surname. Finally, in the passport, it was ‘Pratic Smt Babbar’.
“It was also not Smita, so I was ‘Pratik Smit Babbar’. In school, everyone thought that I was Christian because they were surprised that ‘Why Smt?’, Nobody cared for Babbar. Everyone called me Smit.”
Pratik left a permanent impression in his first film Jaane tu ya jaane na. In that film, he was credited as ‘Pratic Babbar’, but later, he left with ‘Pratic’ only for a few years.
“In my first film, my name was Pratik Babbar and then Satan got better than me and I started thinking ‘kaun hai maa? Kaun hai baap? For some films, I was only pretty because I was bitter about my parents.
Sharing the idea behind settling with the name Pratik Smita Patil, he said, “I had to embrace that name, it fulfills me. Now, I am full of feeling, I am feeling. Priya said, ‘Pratic, you do it, you give her life, she gave her life to you, you give her, you are her son, you like it’ and I liked it. ‘
