New Delhi: Amid divorce rumours, an old video of Aishwarya Rai is doing the rounds on social media. In this throwback clip, the actress can be seen reacting to a journalist calling her ‘Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’. Recently, Jaya Bachchan grabbed everyone’s attention with her reaction to being called ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ in the Rajya Sabha.

In the viral video, when journalist Anupama Chopra introduced the actress as ‘Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’, Aishwarya was surprised and said, “Ohoo… that’s the title… Oh my god! Just the normal Aishwarya, the way you know me”.
When asked if ‘Rai Bachchan’ is her official surname, the actress replied with a smile. “Professionally it is Aishwarya Rai, who is married to Abhishek Bachchan. So obviously, Aishwarya Bachchan. Take whatever meaning you want from it.”
Interestingly, the video comes shortly after actress-politician Jaya Bachchan took strong objection to Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh addressing her as ‘Smt. Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’. She said her identity is independent of her husband’s name. However, Singh said her name in the documents submitted by him is ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’.
Later, when the Vice President suggested that she should change the name on the election certificate, Jaya Bachchan said, ‘No, sir. I am very proud. I am very proud of my name and my husband and his achievements. It shows that aura which cannot be erased. So, don’t worry. This drama you people have started is new – it was not there before.’
Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek Bachchan in April 2007 and they have a daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan.
