After a government advice, Pakistani songs were removed from Spotify on Wednesday night. Popular tracks Mand, Jhol, Fascal And other have disappeared from the stage.
The move comes to Pahgam in Operation Sindoor and recent terrorist attacks.
On 8 May, the Government of India instructed all OTT platforms, media streaming services and digital middlemen to close web series, films, songs, podcasts and other media content generated from Pakistan.
Advice was issued under Part II of Information Technology (Mediator Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code), 2021. This reminds publishers and intermediaries of their obligations that “ensure that the material host or stream -up material does not endanger India’s sovereignty, integrity, national security or public order.”
The ministry said that many terrorist attacks in India have been linked to cross border with state and non-state actors in Pakistan. Citing the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahgam, many Indian citizens and a Nepali National died, the government said that advice is being issued in the interest of national security.
Under the IT rules, the code of conduct states that “publishers should use caution and discretion when publishing any material that can affect India’s sovereignty, security, public system or friendly relations with abroad.”
“OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and middlemen working in India are advised to close web-series, movies, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether it is available on membership-based models or otherwise, when they originate in Pakistan with immediate effect,”
Accordingly, changes were also seen in various music platforms. Pakistani actors have been removed from the posters of their Hindi films.

A similar edit was done for Shahrukh Khan’s album cover RichWhere the image of Mahira Khan was removed. The update poster now shows Shahrukh Khan alone.
Song Buddha From Kapoor & Sons, Fawad Khan, who was shown with Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, is currently unavailable on YouTube in India. The displayed message states, “The video is unavailable. Uploader has not made this video available in your country.” The song was posted by Sony Music India, and its poster on music apps has also been replaced to remove Fawad Khan.
Answer to changes, My love I swear this on you Producer Deepak Mukut told Hindustan Times, “He did not ask me, this is his decision. Whatever our government says, everyone will have to follow.”
