‘All We Imagine as Light’: Payal Kapadia’s Grand Prix winner and Golden Globes nominee to soon embark on digital journey

Payal Kapadia’s We imagine everything as light All set to start your digital journey soon. The film, which recently received two nominations at the Golden Globe Awards 2025, will release on January 3 on streaming giant Disney+ Hotstar.

Excited about the OTT release, Payal said in a press note, “I am thrilled with the love We imagine everything as light Received from all of you. After a successful theatrical run, I am glad that it will now be available to watch on Disney+Hotstar. Now I’m so excited to share it with a wider audience.”

Starring Kani Kushruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Aaron, the film is an official Indo-French co-production between France’s Petit Chaos and India’s Chalk & Cheese & Another Birth. The film tells the story of Prabha (Kani), a troubled nurse who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, and Anu (Divya), her young roommate who seeks intimacy with her lover. A trip to a seaside town gives them a chance to confront their desires.

Earlier this year, the film created history by winning the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. We imagine everything as light It premiered in the highly anticipated ‘Competition section’ at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival on 23 May. It was the first Indian film to be screened in the main section of the festival in 30 years. The last Indian film to make it to the competition section was Shaji N Karun’s Swaham In 1994.

And in December, a golden moment was recorded in the history of Indian cinema when Payal Kapadia became the first Indian director to receive a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director. The film also earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language.

Commenting on the nomination, Payal said in a statement, “I am deeply honored by this nomination and grateful to the HFPA for this recognition. It’s a celebration of everyone who worked so diligently on the film. For everyone in India, We imagine everything as light It’s still in theaters–please go see it and support us!”
