Allu Arjun’s lawyers are considering legal action over the delay in his release from jail despite the High Court order.

Hyderabad: Despite the High Court order to release Tollywood actor Allu Arjun immediately, his lawyers are planning to initiate legal action over his “illegal detention”.

Following Allu Arjun’s release from Chanchalguda jail on Saturday morning, his lawyer Ashok Reddy told the media that he was being kept in illegal detention despite the jail authorities receiving a copy of the order from the High Court.

The lawyer said that the High Court has clearly said in its order that the accused should be released immediately.

“Despite receiving the copy of the order, they did not release him. You should question the government and the department as to why the actor was not released. The High Court order was very specific that as soon as the order is received, you should release the actor. Despite this, he has not released, he will have to answer,” the lawyer said.

“We have to take further steps. We will take whatever is legally acceptable,” he said.

The actor’s legal team said there was no delay in the jail authorities receiving the order. He claimed that he presented a certified copy of the High Court order and the messenger of the High Court also presented a copy to the officials.

Soon after his release, Allu Arjun went to the family’s film production house Geeta Arts and spoke to his lawyers for an hour.

The National Award-winning actor was released from jail at 6.40 am, almost 12 hours after he was granted interim bail for four weeks by the Telangana High Court.

Jail officials said that they received the bail order late at night and since prisoners cannot be released during the night as per the jail manual, the actor was released the next morning.

Allu Arjun was granted interim bail by the High Court, an hour after he was sent to 14-day judicial custody by the trial court in a case related to the stampede in a theater during the premiere show of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’.

The interim bail put an end to the day’s dramatic developments, which began with the actor’s arrest from his Jubilee Hills residence on Friday morning.

On 4 December, a woman was killed and her son seriously injured in a stampede during the premiere show at Sandhya Theatre, where Allu Arjun was also present.

Police had registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team and the theater management under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt) r/w 3(5) BNS.
