The iconic Bollywood film ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with its re-release in theatres. The film, which was an instant success, propelled Hrithik and Ameesha into stardom. Ameesha recently revealed about the serious injury Hrithik suffered while shooting the climactic action scene of the film.
When Hrithik Roshan got injured during the shooting of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai
In an interview with Zoom, Ameesha shared details of the incident and recalled how Hrithik suffered a serious back injury during the climax shoot. The scene involved a high-intensity stunt where Hrithik was supposed to perform a jump, but things went awry. Ameesha revealed, “When we were shooting the climax, when it was intense action, Hrithik had to jump and when he jumped, our hearts were in our mouths because Hrithik broke his back.” He described the worrying moment the actor was injured, saying, “I actually heard it. He fell, and broke part of his back. We took him to the hospital at three in the morning.”
The injury not only caused immediate concern but also significantly delayed the production of the film. Ameesha told that due to the injury, Hrithik had to take a long break to recover. He said, “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai got delayed by six months because Hrithik needed rest and had to go to rehab.” He further mentioned the financial and logistical implications, including the cost of recreating the same set. “We came back, Rakesh uncle installed the same set. Of course, it cost a lot of money and caused financial losses,” he added.

‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, directed by Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan, became a successful film for the young actor. Interestingly, Ameesha was brought into the project at the last minute when Kareena Kapoor, who was initially cast for the lead role opposite Hrithik, had opted out. Kareena had shot a few scenes but later left the film and made her debut in Refugee with Abhishek Bachchan.
Despite the challenges faced during production, ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ became a landmark film in the careers of both Hrithik and Ameesha. The pair later reunited for the 2002 film ‘Aap Mujhe Achhe Lagne Lage’, but the film failed to make an impact at the box office.
