Ampuran controversy: Film Employees Federation of Kerala called personal attacks on Mohanlal

Amid controversy around the recently released ‘L2: Empuran’, a film industry body on Monday condemned social media attacks on filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.

According to industry sources, this is the first time a film organization has openly expressed solidarity with the actors after the release of ‘Emperan’.

In a Facebook post, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) said: “We welcome the criticism of the film and content without any compromise. Only an art form can be developed really through creative criticism. However, we strongly believe that criticism should not land into personal attacks, threats, or branding, because without political or religious affiliation.” The organization further emphasized that the goal of meaningful dialogue should be promoted not to oppose the voices but to promote open discussions.

“We are standing in solidarity with all the film professionals who worked on ‘Ampuran’,” the post read.

The post ended with an quotation of ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ by Ernest Hemingway: “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” It is fine that art and artists have always expressed the world, Fafka said.

On Monday, Mohanlal announced on social media that ‘Ampuran’ had earned Rs 200 crore in less than five days.

The controversy around the film intensified after the Sangh’s Parvar started fierce criticism against parts of the film.

Subsequently, on Sunday, Mohanlal expressed “regret” over the dispute and assured that the controversial parts would be removed.

Taking on social media, the actor said that, as an artist, it was his duty to “make sure that any of his films did not promote any political movement, ideology or hatred towards religious community.” Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film ‘Luusifer’ is the second installment in the trilogy, which has been planned by the Prithviraj-Mohanlal team.

On their early days, Sangh Parivar criticized the film on social media, while the sections of Congress and Left appreciated it for portraying right -wing politics as a “villain”. The film has made a thorough debate on its criticism of right -wing politics and its secret context for the riots of Gujarat.

On Thursday, the world was released worldwide, ‘L2: Empuraan’ had 4,500 shows on 746 screens in Kerala, which were according to their early days, sources.

Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and under Lyca Productions, Antony Perumbavur, Gokulam Gopalan and Sabkaran were banquet, the film also stars Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramudu, Tavino Thomas and Indrajith Sukumaran.
