In a fictitious village near Kurnool, a petty thief gets caught up in conspiracies and what follows is a mix of crime and comedy. Gum Gum GaneshWritten and directed by first-time director Uday Shetty, the film will see actor Anand Deverakonda playing an affable hero, which is completely different from the usual characters he has played so far.
Talking about the film, which will release in theatres on May 31, in this interview in Hyderabad, the actor said, “gum Gum… My calm self is far away. I have an energetic side that comes out only in the company of close friends. In this film, I play a character with spiky hair and a tattoo and am hyper.” Initially, he wondered if people would like the character. “Such questions arose out of fear and I used them as motivating factors to do something new.”

I depend on the director to tell me if everything is okay.” Anand says his brother Vijay Deverakonda has a different approach: “As soon as he finishes a shot, he thinks carefully if he has taken the right shot. He checks the monitor and plans what he has to do next.”

Anand pauses for a moment and reveals that the scene where he shames the female protagonist by using foul language was debated before filming. “We had intense discussions on whether that word should be used. Sai Rajesh felt my character would react that way because he doesn’t care for his mother, he doesn’t have a father and he must have seen his friends using foul language. We never intended to celebrate it or promote the film from that perspective.”

With two actors under the same roof, ask Anand how the brothers deal with success and failures and he says, “When a film that we hoped would work doesn’t work, it is frustrating for a few days. But we have a good support system, our parents don’t let us be upset for long. We start doing physical activity or start concentrating on the next film because we can’t do anything with what has already happened.”
