Actress Angelina Jolie has opened up about her “emotionally difficult” divorce as she filed a new court filing in her ongoing legal battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt over their Chateau Miraval home in France. According to page sixAngelina spoke out in a declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week in response to Brad Pitt’s request that she turn over private messages regarding their Chateau controversy. Angelina told the court that she is demanding $33,000 from Brad for the legal fees he will have to pay to respond to her request.
Angelina Jolie reveals about her Miraval home
Angelina also explained how she gave control of the Miraval home to Brad and that he or their children “never set foot there again”. She said, “The events that led to my separation from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children. Upon filing for divorce, I relinquished control (and full residence) of our family homes in Los Angeles and Miraval to him without any compensation in the hope that he would calm down in his dealings with me after a difficult and painful period.”
Angelina will never go to Miraval
She claimed that she and her children – Maddox (24), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and twins Knox and Vivienne (17), have “never set foot again” in Miraval because of its “connection to the traumatic events leading to the divorce”. She said that after the separation, they “immediately began looking for a new home for me and our children, initially renting a house while looking for a more stable solution.”
Angelina now wants $33,000 from Brad
Brad sued Angelina for his share of the Miraval property. While Brad claimed Angelina sold her stake in the wine division of Stoli Group without his permission, she said she didn’t need his permission. In her filing, Angelina said that her savings were “tied up in Miraval” and that she needed those funds because she had not asked for “alimony or any other financial support” from Brad.
An emotional Angelina talked about her Miravalle property. She added, “Miraval was one of the first big investments we made together, and it was the centerpiece of our family life. We were married there, I spent part of my pregnancy there and I brought my twins home from the hospital. It was hard to have such a sudden leave from our home and memories, and it was especially hard for the children to have their lives disrupted so much.”
Angelina explained why she is asking Brad for $33,000. According to her lawyers, Angelina, through her lawyer, repeatedly asked Brad to withdraw the proposal and even warned him. However, he “refused to withdraw it.” Therefore, Angelina has requested that the court order Brad to “reimburse the large attorneys’ fees he was forced to pay.”
In July, Brad claimed he was seeking the messages because Alexey Oleynik of the Stoli Group allegedly refused to comply with demands for testimony.
Angelina and Brad were legally married on August 14, 2014. The couple separated on 15 September 2016. On April 12, 2019, she was declared legally single.
