Angelina Jolie says playing Maria Callas in Maria ‘helped heal a part of me’

Angelina Jolie shared her experience of playing the role of Maria Callas in director Pablo Larraín’s biographical psychological drama film ‘Maria’, reports Deadline. He described it as a “once in a lifetime” role and added, “I mean, it’s definitely the most challenging.” ‘Maria’ is a film about opera singer Maria Callas. It is directed by Pablo Larraín, written by Steven Knight and produced by Fremantle.

Angelina spent seven months memorizing six tragic arias associated with Callas, who died of a heart attack at his Paris home on September 16, 1977. She was 53 years old.

Playing such a role comes with a responsibility in itself and Jolie shared that she always wanted to work with director Pablo Larraín and that she “doesn’t get asked to do this kind of work” often. He added, “And if you ask me, it doesn’t happen often with this kind of material and this director, so these things come once in a lifetime.”

Her experience in the film, “being in the footsteps of someone you really admire,” as she says, “was beyond my imagination, and it was a gift to me emotionally.”

Talking about the role he said, “It changed me as a person. It helped heal a part of me.”

She says, “This role changed me as a person. It helped heal a part of me.”

Recalling how she prepared for the role and how it impacted her personally, she shared, “It would be too personal to tell. But from that first day [on set] According to Deadline, the ability to go from not being able to breathe and crying to singing at the top of my lungs at La Scala, Milan changed me.

‘Maria’ received an eight-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the recent Venice Film Festival held at the Sala Grande theatre. Jolie was seen wiping tears after getting emotional at the reception.

Lahren’s biographical drama follows American Greek soprano Maria Callas as she returns to Paris after a glamorous but tumultuous life in the public eye. The film reimagines her final days as she grapples with her identity and legacy.

‘Maria’ is produced by Jonas Dörnbach, Janine Jackowski, Juan de Dios Larrain and Lorenzo Milli.
