Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh faced ‘traumatic events’ before dropping Brad Pitt’s name

Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh has decided to change her name. On her 18th birthday, she went ahead and asked the court to remove her father Brad Pitt’s last name. This was followed by reports of a newspaper ad in the LA Times making the same request. Although the exact reasons behind the decision have not been made public, Shiloh’s lawyer alluded to a difficult chapter in her life, calling it the result of “traumatic events.” The news comes amid ongoing speculation about the relationship between Shiloh and Brad Pitt.

Shiloh’s lawyer denies the star kid’s newspaper ad

Shiloh’s attorney, Peter Levin, has denied reports in a new statement to Page Six that the teen decided to publish an ad in the newspaper about her decision to drop the Moneyball actor’s name from her name. “Shiloh Jolie did not take out any ‘ad’ announcing a name change, and there is no press reporting that is inaccurate,” the attorney told the news outlet.

The statement further said, “As Shiloh’s attorney, I was required to publish a legal notice as California law requires anyone wishing to change their name to do so. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as required.”

Shiloh Jolie Pitt decided to change her name after ‘traumatic events’

The lawyer asked news outlets to focus on being accurate, especially when reporting about young adults actually making personal decisions. The lawyer said the media should be “more careful in its reporting, especially when covering a young adult who has made an independent and important decision after traumatic events, and is simply following the legal process.”

Following her 18th birthday in May, Shiloh reportedly filed a legal request to remove her father’s last name, Pitt. The news comes just after her younger sister Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the playbill for The Outsiders. Sources close to Brad Pitt revealed that he is “extremely hurt” by the decision. After all, Shiloh was his first biological daughter, and he reportedly treasures their bond. “He always wanted a daughter,” a source previously told the outlet.

Brad Pitt’s relationship with kids is ‘strained’

An insider previously revealed that Brad Pitt’s relationship with his children has been “strained” for some time, which is why he is allowed limited visitation. “It’s definitely hard for Brad to constantly be reminded of the distance he has from his kids. He loves them so much and misses them so much. It’s a very sad situation.” The former couple also shares five other children together: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s much-publicised divorce, although declared legally single in 2019, is still unresolved. Their separation, prompted by allegations of a physical altercation in 2016, is embroiled in legal wrangling. The dispute centres around the sale of their French winery, Chateau Miraval. Jolie sold her shares in 2021 for $67 million, and Pitt is contesting the sale in court.
